Mohair Socks - "Real Man Socks"

Our mohair socks are getting around London this Christmas. Various colours are currently selling in Dover Street Market, Mr Porter, Other Shop and Fortnum & Mason. We also have just started selling black mohair in heavy knit and plain knit versions at Mr Hare in Mayfair. He knows how to make snappy shoes this man, we very much encourage you to take a stroll and try on some styles. These are tried and tested stylish shoes and what better comfort than having a layer of mohair in-between you and the leather eh? Let's quote the man himself... "When I say these are real men’s socks, I mean even men can look after them. You don’t have to take my word for it, but I do swear by them".

"REAL MAN SOCKS"
Next up is East London store GOODHOOD. We have known these guys a long time and loved their store concept and individuality. They love the classics and well made products but mix it all up in a spin of cool pieces led by their style and street wear / music influences. We made some dip-dye socks especially for them. These are pretty special as there are only a few in existence. They are dip-dyed by hand and as renowned Selectism say... "Socks are a new addition to Marwood’s resume this season, proving that the brand has some of the finest craftmanship in the business right across the board."

 "FINEST CRAFTMANSHIP"
Just don't forget about the colours in a range of sizes for MEN & WOMEN on the Marwood web shop.

Marwood won an award!

Re-posted from CFE website...

BUILDING BRAND EQUITY WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Six months, ten businesses, two winners. It’s been a very exciting journey for all of us on our Building Brand Equity programme. Especially so, for our10 finalists who have worked very hard on their business plans with expert mentors from Angel Capital Innovations. We culminated the programme last night with a final event at The Hospital Club, where the 10 finalists pitched in front of Angel investors and a panel of judges. The two winners are:
Katie Rowland who won ‘The CFE – Venrex Investment Readiness Award’ for the ‘business most likely to succeed’
Becky French of Marwood, who won ‘The CFE – Pembroke Emerging Designer Award’ for the ‘Best Pitch’.
Both Katie and Becky are CFE alumni on the Pioneer and Market Entry programmes respectively. The designers were extremely thrilled to win the cash prizes and secure additional mentoring with Investment experts.

A photo album from Tokyo

At the end of last month we were part of the UKTI 's GREAT WEEK Japan. Along with other British designers such as Matthew Miller, Sibling, Alice Made This, Moody & Farrell, Bottletop and Olivia Von Halle among others we took our wares to Tokyo for a week long visit. We showed our collections to buyers and press for two days in La Foret Gallery and then managed to check out the local shops including Dover Street Market Ginza, Tomorrowland, Edifice, SuperAMarket, Beams International and the most amazing bookshop that could have entertained for months on end - the  Daikanyama T-Site
Here are some snaps from the trip...

Our first Japanese stockist was Tomorrowland who bought the first collection from us in AW11 and have bought every season since. We are proud to be a part of their beautiful store.

The lining of this travel case is the Marwood 'staircase' pattern and is teflon coating for water resistance. We are proud of the results and look forward to hearing you thoughts. Thanks for all the tweets so far!

George Singer - Bespoke Chandeliers

The Marwood studio is busy at the moment. We are buzzing with collaborations, new projects, installation proposals as well as the new AW14 collection. Exciting times. Whilst all this is going on, it is even better to be surrounded by news of new, exciting projects that our friends are working on. Check out this "Big Sexy Diamond" as it has quite aptly been named. This is installed in the Saatchi Gallery in London. George Singer (fellow Somerset born friend and designer) designed this and installed it this week. Totally inspiring and beautiful results. With Frieze Art Fair in full swing, this feels like the right time to be focussing our attention on London's galleries and artists. The thinkers, dreamers, makers and succeeders.

Wool Week - Marwood Mohair

As it is Wool Week 2013 we thought we would take this opportunity to give you some more detailed information about our mohair socks. All in the name of wool...

MARWOOD169_h306.jpg

Mohair is a silk-like wool yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat. Mohair fiber is extremely durable and resilient. It is notable for its high luster and sheen which has helped give it the nickname the "Diamond Fiber". Mohair takes dye exceptionally well, which is why we have hand-dyed our socks in exclusive colours to Marwood.
Mohair is warm in winter as it has great insulating properties, while remaining cool in summer due to its moisture wicking properties. It is durable, naturally elastic, flame resistant, crease resistant, and does not felt.

How can you wash mohair socks? Why doesn’t it felt like wool does?
Machine wash at 30 degrees
Mohair is composed mostly of keratin, a protein found in the hair, wool, horns and skin of all mammals. While it has scales like wool, the scales are not fully developed, merely indicated. Thus, mohair does not felt as wool does.

Mohair is a luxury fiber, like cashmere, angora and silk, and is usually more expensive than most wool that comes from sheep due to its unique properties.

Where does Marwood mohair come from?
Our Mohair comes from angora goats that are bred on a family farm in Devon. The yarn is then spun and knitted in to socks and then hand-dyed at the farm before the Marwood tags are hand sewn on. The process is highly monitored and executed to an extremely high standard from the beginning. This is why we can stand by this luxurious fibre and know that Marwood mohair socks will last for years.

Where can you buy Marwood mohair socks?
