Shimmering Wall Sculptures

We have discovered artist El Anatsui's wall hangings in pictures only and just need to find one to see up close. The texture, detail, skill and majestic size is so appealing. A sales trip to New York is potentially planned for July and there is one of Anatsui's pieces in the contemporary collections at the MOMA.

Closer to home it looks like the October Gallery has two of Anatsui's pieces on show in their 'Masters of the Transvangarde' exhibition from 23 May - 3 August. A must see.

A trip to County Durham

Saul Bass

Saul Bass, who died in 1996, would have celebrated his 93rd birthday today.
Google have made a tribute in the form of an animated sequence based on his designs for fim title credits, film posters and corporate logos.
We particularly enjoyed the blog The Fox Is Black's tribute after a recent visit to the Stanley Kubrick exhibition in Los Angeles. Great to see the preliminary sketches of the film poster for the film, The Shining as well as his signature...
Here are some of our favourite of his film posters...

Don't forget your roots.

We've always loved old ties. Hand-me-downs, charity shop finds, bottom of the wardrobe finds... these were the ties that inspired Marwood's first collection. The items you can't find today. We have now extended this brief to ourselves to encourage innovation. It doesn't stop us appreciating a really good woven UK made tie though. We snapped this of friend Toby at a wedding this weekend...
