The Cocktail Recipes in this Book have been compiled by Harry Craddock of the Savoy Hotel London. Decorations are by Gilbert Rumbold.
'A fine copy of this delightful and thoroughly art-deco book. Harry Craddock left the States during Prohibition and came to the Savoy in 1920. He became the star of the American Bar and is credited with inventing the White Lady and popularized classics such as the Dry Martini. The design of this binding is based on the carpet in the American Bar. Derek Hood is following in a long tradition of binders who have looked to textiles for inspiration. For example, the great flowering of patterns and colours on English bindings from about 1640 can be related to the importation of carpets from the Middle-East. It should be noted that the variously coloured elements in this binding have been inlaid, with great skill.' www.georgebayntun.com
